The Cambodia Landmine Clearance Campaign of Dallas, Texas is launching
its third fundraising effort
The Cambodia Landmine Clearance Campaign of Dallas, Texas is launching its third
fundraising effort. The last two years netted over $42,000, which helped clear
nearly 50,000 square meters in two villages in Battambang Province, northwest Cambodia.
But with recent world events turning public attention even further from Cambodia, we need your help more than ever.

We are adopting an area in Kamrieng Commune, Battambang Province, heavily mined during fighting from
1979-1996. The Cambodian authorities have placed an urgent appeal for landmine
clearance funds for Kamrieng Commune, as thousands of returned refugees from
the camps in Thailand carve out a living in this jungle
border region. The fertile land is ideal for growing vegetables, but the
landmine contamination makes farming and transportation of produce to the
markets treacherous.
CMAC deminer. Almost all demining in Cambodia must be done by hand.
Our specific focus is Lak 62 Village, a remote hamlet of 130 families (568
people).Even though the war is finally
over, at least 37 villagers have become landmine victims, with five
deaths.And tragically, a known
minefield extends to within a few hundred meters of the Elizabeth School, the only school in the entire
region. No child should have to face
such dangers!

The cleared land around Lak 62 village will be designated for further resettlement
and agricultural use.Funds raised in
this campaign are administered to the Cambodian Mine Action Center
(CMAC), the brigades employed in this dangerous yet
vital work. Past visits to
Cambodia
have proven to us the Campaign’s successes in
eradicating the landmine scourge, as a first step toward peace and development
